Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is insurance designed to cover the costs and losses and reduce the risk associated with unexpected events incurred while traveling. It is a useful protection for those traveling domestically or abroad.
Many of the big hotel brands such as Wyndham offer guests travel insurance for an additional fee. Airbnb says: "...For any trip, think about signing up for traveler's insurance. Airbnb doesn't offer travelers insurance for guests, but traveler's insurance is a relatively affordable option that can protect you in case of an injury or emergency on a trip. Some policies even cover lost baggage and travel delays. Check with your local insurance provider for details on your options..."
Additionally here are some relatively affordable options:

Be sure to pack up all your belongings when you check out. We are not responsible for anything left in the apartment.
Airport transportation options
You can take Uber, taxi, limousine, shuttle, bus or rental car from the airport to Island Colony located at 445 Seaside Ave, Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii 96815.
Directions from Airport to 445 Seaside Avenue, Island Colony #4116, Honolulu, Hawaii, 96815 USA
For early arrivals and late departures
We will message you if the unit is ready for check in before 3pm. It is not possible to check in before the previous guest has checked out. We need the time between to clean the unit. Asking for early check in won't have any impact on when the previous guest checks out or if the unit is ready early - before 3pm. We automatically message you if it is ready early.
A few suggestions for guests expecting to arrive early:
1) Use an airport shuttle service featuring baggage storage service. Three such services recommended by past guests are listed above.
2) Store baggage at Waikiki Baggage and Luggage Storage, 417 Nāhua St (888)768-7229. It's 2 blocks away.
3) Lock your luggage in your trunk - if you have a rental car.
4) Wait with your luggage in the Island Colony Lobby or on the Island Colony Recreation Deck

Parking
Loading-Unloading:
If you arrive by car, there are several 2 hour free parking loading and unloading zone spaces under the Makai Porte Cochère. We can't guarantee an available parking space when you arrive. It's first come first served. By the way, Island Colony is the only Condotel in Waikiki that has any free loading zone.
You'll need to follow the procedures posted on signage. Luggage carts are available at the security desk.
Covered-Secured-In-Building Parking
Purchase permit at the entrance booth or in the 6th floor office.
Un-covered parking area on the Diamond Head side, Nohonani Street side of the building

1. Enter the elevator lobby through the glass door.
2. If no one has already called the elevator, ask the security guard at the desk to bring the elevator for you this first time.
3. Ascend to the 41st floor.
4. Turn right and head nearly to the end of the hall, watch for unit number 4116 on your way.
5. Use your key less lock combination to open the locks (video demonstration below). We gave you your lock combination when you booked. It's in your messages. Note, this video also shows how to "quick lock" the deadbolt without entering the combination.
6. Drop off your luggage inside the apartment.
7. Remove the Yellow Electronic Security Key FOBs from their wall hooks just inside the apartment door. Take them to the Aqua Skyline at Island Colony Hotel Front Desk in the main lobby on the ground floor. They will activate the Yellow Security Key FOBs for the duration of your stay. Do not pick up additional Yellow Security Key FOB's from the Hotel Front Desk.
The Hotel Front Desk will need to see your ID. Although they should have a copy of your guest registration on file, presenting them with your copy might speed guest registration processing.
Note: When you check out - leave these Yellow Electronic Security Key FOBs on their hooks inside the apartment. Do not leave them with anyone else. Do not leave them with security or hotel personnel. There will be a US $25 per lost key replacement charge.
Note: Never disable the automatic Lever Lock using the inside lever lock buttons.

It's a local custom
The floors are cleaned and sterilized before you check in.
You'll feel cooler if you are walking barefoot, "Hawaiian style" or wearing house slippers. Wearing socks and shoes can make your feet and whole body too warm. When your feet are cool the rest of your body naturally feels cooler. Also, wearing soiled shoes inside the condo will "spoil the nest" - soil the floor everywhere.
Smoking is not allowed inside the apartment or inside the building. Smoking is only allowed outside the building. About Hawaii's smoke free environment.
It would cost you a substantial sum to rid the unit of any smoke residue-odor. Don't even think about it!
The ensuite bathroom has a bath tub, hand held shower head.
There are bath towels, face towels, wash rags, liquid body soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, bathtub drain rubber plug, exfoliating bath sponge and a bathtub drain strainer Never remove the tub drain strainer when using the tub/shower. Only remove it to clean it - flush any accumulated debris down the toilet - no the sink - then put it back in the tub drain. If you drain the tub without the strainer it may clog the trap and prompt a $125 drain snake fee. Bar soap and other by products of bathing can clog the drain-trap. We check the drain speed between each guest to make sure that water drains as fast as it flows from the faucet.

2nd set of Sheets, Towels & Blanket-Comforter
When you are 3 to 4 guests you may use the additional towels, sheets, comforter and pillows located in clear zipper bag on a closet shelf. Otherwise there is a $15 additional charge for this package if you open or use any of these items.
Warnings about sun screen or sun tan lotions
To avoid contributing to coral reef destruction, bleaching fabrics including your clothing, sheets, towels, sofa sleeper, cabinet finishes don't use skin protection, sunblock, sunscreen products containing Avobenzone or Oxybenzone. Replacing bleached sheets costs ~ $70, towels another $70 and refinishing furniture depends on how much needs refinishing. This may be counter-intuitive to guests who aren't used to the effects of these chemicals found in most sun screen lotions.
Some even say they are personal health risks associated with Avobenzone or Oxybenzone.
Surprisingly, the bleaching doesn't show up until after fabrics have been washed. Please be cognizant of these problems when purchasing and using sun tanning lotions.

Meeting Room
Meeting Room Reservation Form
The form requests that you describe the Intended Purpose for the Reservation (please note that for parties of 25 or more, there may be a deposit required to ensure the Meeting Room is properly cleaned).
Laundromat
There is a 24 hour laundromat on the 6th floor with washers and dryers. You are welcome to use the plastic-electronic Wash Laundry Card left on the coffee table. The way it works is you "charge up" the Laundry Card on one special charging machine mounted against a wall and then "spend it" when you insert it into washers or dryers. There are instructions posted in the laundromat and the machines have a display that tells you how much value is on the card. Please leave the card back on the coffee table when you check out since the card itself costs $5.00 empty. There may be some laundry soap in the cabinet but there's no guarantee you won't have to purchase your own. If you choose to wash the sheets or towels during your stay, please do so carefully and not bleach or wash-damage them since a set of sheets costs ~ $70 and a set of towels costs ~ $70

About Sand, Drains and Showers
Do not put sand or any solid objects down any drain.
We suggest you shower off 1) at the beach 2) under the Makai Porte Cochère Shower or 3) a shower on the 6th floor Recreation Deck. That's plenty of chances to avoid clogging the bathtub drain trap with sand.
Waikiki Beach Shower
Island Colony Makai Porte Cochère Shower
Island Colony 6th floor shower
Don't shower off your sand in the apartment bathtub - it will clog the trap
It costs $125 to snake a drain when it gets plugged with sand or other non-drainable objects.
We check the drain speed prior to each guest check in.
Please read this before putting sand, peach pits, coconut husks, banana peels, metal objects in any drains or disposal
Cock roaches
They are part of Hawaii's warm, tropical ecosystem.
If you can’t abide them, maybe vacationing in Hawaii is not for you. People that live in warm or coastal cities are usually familiar with these little darlings. Guests from cool-cold weather climates are not. (National Geographic Video).
American Housing Survey, U.S. Census Bureau, top 10 cities.
We as hosts do our part to minimize pests in the condo by 1) seal openings through the walls such as around plumbing pipes and electric wires 2) thoroughly clean before each guest check in 3) monthly treatment by licensed pest control experts.
During and after check in, cock roaches can enter the unit the following ways: 1) hitch hike on your luggage – from contaminated airplane luggage holds or vehicles 2) whenever the front door or Lanai door or Lanai windows are open 3) on back packs, purses or other carried accessories they can board while you are on outings.
What attracts cock roaches 1) warmth 2) food 3) water or moisture 3) dirty laundry. How soon will cock roaches respond to an “invitation”? – Virtually immediately.
What you can do as a guest to avoid attracting cock roaches 1) hang towels on towel bars – don’t leave moist towels or footmat on the floor. 2) always wash and dry dishes directly after meals – don’t leave drinks or dirty dishes out. 3) Keep all food in the refrigerator – don’t leave food in cabinets - even in sealed containers 4) Keep your laundry clean, dry and odor free. And, of course, don't leave food crumbs on the floor or elsewhere!
Following the steps previously mentioned, we minimize exposure to pests. As you can imagine, even Halekulani – the most expensive hotel in Hawaii will have unwelcome visitors if the pest avoidance practises shown above are not observed.
